FAQs'

1. What is special about wild forest honey ?

Ans: Raw wild forest honey is considered to be the rarest form of honey as it is collected only during the winter months from the natural hives in dense forests. It is collected from small honey bees that are capable of producing only one kg of honey. Great care and precautions are followed in collecting the product without harming the honey bees by the local foragers.

2. How is raw honey harvested from the hives?

Ans: The raw forest honey is manually squeezed out of the honeycombs using a cotton cloth to remove only the debris from the hive. The natural wax, bee pollen, royal jellies are retained, and the honey is filled in bottles manually.

3. How can you say that the honey is unadulterated?

Ans: The raw honey is neither processed nor heated and is thus free from adulteration, such as additives, corn syrup, preservatives and colouring agents.

4. From where is the forest honey collected?

Ans: Raw wild honey is the purest and most organic form of honey collected from the Kanha National Park. This forest region is rich in diverse honeybee species that collect the most authentic honey from the nectar of the flowers. The honey is thus free from any harmful sprays and pollution.

5. How is the forest honey collected?

Ans: The Apis laborosia and the Apis Sarasota honey bees found in the Kanha National Park are known for their aggressive attacking behaviour. They collect the nectar from the flowers grown in the wild forest area and produce honey in the hives that are naturally built on the cliffs and the trees. From the hives that naturally form in the Kanha National park trained foragers collect the honey without disturbing the bee colonies. The bees are also kept healthy without subjecting them to harmful antibiotics and other chemical treatments.

Forest honey is collected with the help of Van Samitis of villagers living in the mountains, mainly the Gond Tribes living in the buffer zones of the Kanha National Park. Women self-help groups from the neighbouring villages help in the processing and packaging of forest honey. The honey that is collected naturally from these bees helps in digestion, detoxification of the liver helps, inappropriate weight management as well. The honey that is collected naturally from the dense forest region has an authentic flavour and dissolves on the tongue. Each hive takes about 15 to 20 days time to produce seven to ten kilograms of honey and the honey hunters will climb the trees with smoke-smouldering grass to divert the bees and collect the honey.
